We don’t recommend using McAfee due to its poor reliability scores. McAfee anti-virus will also need to be removed to install other anti-virus software.

To remove the McAfee with the McAfee Remove Tool, follow the instructions below:

  1. Download the McAfee Removal Tool: If you haven't already downloaded the McAfee Removal Tool, you'll need to do so. https://download.mcafee.com/molbin/iss-loc/SupportTools/MCPR/MCPR.exe
  2. Close McAfee Programs: Before running the removal tool, ensure that all McAfee programs are closed. This includes any antivirus software, security suites, or other McAfee applications that might be running in the background. You can do this by right-clicking the McAfee icon in the system tray (bottom-right corner of the screen) and selecting "Exit" or "Close".
  3. Run the McAfee Removal Tool: Locate the downloaded McAfee Removal Tool file, which is usually in the form of an executable (.exe) file. Double-click on the file to run it. You may need to confirm your action by clicking "Yes" or entering your administrator password.
  4. Accept User Account Control (UAC) Prompt: If prompted by User Account Control (UAC), click "Yes" to allow the removal tool to make changes to your computer.
  5. Follow On-Screen Instructions: The McAfee Removal Tool will launch and guide you through the removal process. Follow the on-screen instructions carefully. You may need to agree to the tool's terms and conditions before proceeding.
  6. Wait for the Removal Process to Complete: The removal tool will automatically detect and uninstall all McAfee-related programs and files from your system. This process may take some time depending on the speed of your computer and the amount of data being removed. Be patient and allow the tool to complete the process.
  7. Restart Your Computer: Once the removal process is complete, you will likely be prompted to restart your computer. Save any open files and close all programs before restarting.
  8. Verify McAfee Removal: After your computer has restarted, verify that McAfee has been successfully removed. Check the list of installed programs in the Control Panel to ensure that there are no remaining McAfee entries.
